Introduction
Val is a thrill-seeking gunslinger with a knack for finding trouble wherever he goes. From Adventurer to mercenary and odd-jobs man, he accepts a wide range of assignments with little regard for rules or regulation.Unable to manipulate aether, he turned to the use of weapons and devices such as those employed by the Musketeer's Guild, Skysteel Manufactory's Machinists and the Garlean Empire. Being ambidextrous and possessing a matching pair of pistols, he can wield two firearms simultaneously. His combat style relies heavily on speed, dexterity and subterfuge.
Val exhibits light-hearted, playful, or sometimes childish behaviors which often result in others not taking him seriously at first. A far cry from the "idiot with a toy gun", though, he has been known to lean on these initial impressions to hide that there may be more behind this frivolous façade.Questioning him outright about his motives, aspirations, or background may earn you his infamous avoidance of ever giving a direct answer. If one day you find that he's a bit more cooperative with his replies, you'll know you've earned his complete respect. In contrast to what many would assume, Val favours nonviolent solutions to conflict, and typically only uses a show of force when negotiation is no longer an option. That being said, he's also not into the habit of mediating between conflicting parties and chooses to maintain neutrality as much as possible. His laid-back temperament and high patience ceiling allows him to remain good-natured with even the most unruly of miscreants.

Hooks
Trouble Magnet
For better or worse, trouble has shadowed Val ever since his arrival in Eorzea. But at least it keeps things interesting. If it's not a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, then it's being mistaken for someone else, usually for one on the wrong side of the law. (Does your character identify as a problem? Did they wake up on the wrong side of the bed one morning, see Val's face and think it was very punch-able? DM me about it. Ruffians, pick-pockets and villain characters are completely welcomed! Do your worst!)
Soldier of Fortune
Whether it's to escort someone through dangerous ruins to procure rare artifacts, assisting in hunts, guarding caravans, or as a simple transporter of smaller goods, this merc is always ready to play a supporting role, assuming there's some compensation involved. If he happens to overhear someone talking about needing another body for some job or mission, he may just mosey on over to inquire about it. That being said, it is worth noting that those who decide to hire him to assassinate someone, will find that he may work in opposition to his contractor's wishes.
Gaolbreaker
Val has a particular talent in breaching containments or otherwise where prisoners would be held. His proficiency at breaking in and out of prisons was often requested, predominantly for the release and rescue of Eorzean captives from Imperial holds. One may have heard of his skill from Alliance or Resistance members as he also provided these services during the events of Ala Mhigo's liberation.
9th Reflection
Natives of Solution 9 may remember a former combatant of the Arcadion who went by the name of Shiv, for his usage of dual daggers, stealth attacks, and Hellhound beast-soul. It was said that Shiv had announced his retirement shortly after suffering a serious wound during his final match. Although it is assumed he took to living among the upper levels of the city, no one has seen him since, nor can confirm his whereabouts.Valerius and Shiv share a near identical visage, with the only real difference between them is Shiv appearing to have been older than his Source counterpart. For this reason, it is understandable if residents of Solution 9 mistake Val for Shiv.
(Don't see a hook here that piques your interest? That's alright! We can invent another scenario or just wing it with something more casual. Walk-ups or /tells are always welcomed.)

About the Player (OOC)
Prior to joining FFXIV, I spent five years roleplaying and developing my character's personality in Guild Wars 2. Although I cannot bring the many adventures had in another game to this one, I look forward to forging new ones in the FFXIV setting. As a disclaimer, I view roleplay as a collaborative writing amongst consenting players that is in no way related to Real Life, and expect others to keep IC and OOC feelings separated. Mutual fun is the goal and I hope to share a few laughs with those participating.I will generally try to mirror RP styles, but I am a slower writer and require some patience for longer paragraph styles. Discord RP is also perfectly fine and I can set up private channels for those sessions.Since I work from home, I'm often idling in-game somewhere while working, however, do not let that discourage you from sending a DM if you wish to get in contact for RP or even just for a friendly chat.Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my carrd, and hope to see you in-game!

Fun-dumb-facts
-Not a true Machinist by definition as he's chosen a more lightweight approach, one which does not involve the aetherotransformer, turrets or other machina. (Lunch box not included with this happy-meal.)-The goggles are not just a fashion statement. They contain polarized lenses which reduce glare as well as sharpen contrast in low-light situations. (The more nerdy cousin of sunglasses.)-His chocobo, Biscuit, is counted among one of his most treasured companions. Insult Val all you like, but insult his bird, and it's a sure way to win his ire. (Pronounced something like "Bis-kwee". Dont ask, it's French.)-Val has and will make friends with outlaws, ruffians, pirates, and other less law-savvy individuals. (Couldn't be for ulterior motives could it?)-Anyone who's been around Val for any length of time might get the impression he's had a previous affiliation with the Garlean Empire. To what extent, you'll just have to hope he's in the mood to divulge that information. (Or simply take a closer look at the dog-tags he wears around his neck.)-Being a danger-addicted daredevil and adrenaline junkie, this merc isn't one for idling-by. (And if for some reason he is forced to be idle, he'll try to get his fix from drinking copious amounts of coffee.)
